DANANG – Danang City's government has taken back land plots earlier allocated to the Hon Ngoc A Chau coastal tourism project and the Vien Dong Meridian Tower project, as these projects have been delayed for some ten years. The municipal government will turn the land plots into public parks.
In 2008, the municipal government granted the investment certificate for the Hon Ngoc A Chau coastal tourism project, which was scheduled to be built on 85,000 square meters of land in Ngu Hanh Son District and required an estimated investment of more than VND1.55 trillion (US$66.4 million). However, the project was never completed.
Therefore, Danang Chairman Huynh Duc Tho signed a decision approving the development of a coastal park on the site of the Hon Ngoc A Chau coastal tourism project to serve local residents and tourists.
Covering more than 71,800 square meters, the park will include a square, a playground, areas for picnics and events, internal roads and a parking lot. In addition, a sand bank will cover the remaining 13,200 square meters.
Also, the Danang government has approved a project to construct a public park at the site of the Vien Dong Meridian Tower project. The 11,720-square-meter land plot to the east of Trung Vuong Theater in Hai Chau District will be withdrawn to develop a square, a playground, a promenade and a parking area.
Vien Dong Investment Consulting and Technology Transfer JSC, the investor in the Vien Dong Meridian Tower project, received the investment certificate for the VND2.88-trillion project in 2008. Accordingly, the project was scheduled to feature 550 high-end apartments for sale and for lease, a trade center, a convention hall, a six-star hotel with 260 rooms, premium offices for lease and other utilities.
In related news, the Danang government plans to expand APEC Park, which features the symbols of member economies of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum, in Hai Chau District.
The park will be expanded to cover nearly 8,700 square meters and will include a park, a promenade, a stage, a playground for children, an underground restroom and a parking area.
Earlier, on the occasion of hosting the APEC Economic Leaders' Week 2017, the city government had inaugurated APEC Park on a triangular plot of land stretching over 3,000 square meters at the intersection of Ba Thang Hai and Bach Dang extended streets.
