Lawyers contribute to protecting justice, building socialist rule-of-law state: President

The Việt Nam Bar Federation must uphold the principles of independence, honesty, and respect for objective truth, strictly comply with the Constitution and laws, maintain professional ethics, and protect the legitimate rights and interests of citizens and organisations, the socialist rule of law, and the lawful interests of the State.

HÀ NỘI — The community of lawyers nationwide has been making significant contributions to protecting justice, the socialist rule of law, human rights, and the legitimate rights and interests of businesses, citizens, and organisations, thereby promoting socio-economic development and international integration, and building a socialist rule-of-law state of the people, by the people, and for the people, State President Lương Cường remarked on Thursday.

Delivering a speech at a ceremony marking the 80th Traditional Day of Vietnamese Lawyers (October 10, 1945 – 2025) held by the Việt Nam Bar Federation, President Cường appreciated and commended the great contributions of Vietnamese lawyers and the federation to the nation’s struggles for liberation and reunification in the past, as well as to the current cause of national construction and defence.

In the context of profound and comprehensive international integration, particularly as Việt Nam has joined numerous new-generation free trade agreements, the leader underlined that the lawyers must not only be capable of providing domestic legal consultancy and litigation but also be proficient in foreign languages, skilled in negotiation with international partners and clients, knowledgeable about foreign legal systems and international dispute resolution mechanisms. This, he said, enables them to best protect the rights and interests of Vietnamese citizens, organisations, and enterprises, as well as national interests in case of international legal disputes.

He further noted that the group should master technology and apply digital platforms to address legal challenges arising from the digital environment, such as disputes over e-commerce, intellectual property, personal data, and cybersecurity.

At the same time, President Cường stressed that each of them must constantly strive to improve, cultivate ethics, professional integrity, and morality, as well as enhance knowledge, foreign language skills, practical experience, and professional expertise, while being ready to fulfill the political and legal tasks entrusted by the Party and the State.

He added that they must uphold the principles of independence, honesty, and respect for objective truth, strictly comply with the Constitution and laws, maintain professional ethics, and protect the legitimate rights and interests of citizens and organisations, the socialist rule of law, and the lawful interests of the State.

Việt Nam now has nearly 21,000 practicing lawyers, over 6,000 law firms and legal organisations, and 34 provincial and municipal bar associations, all united under a single professional organisation – the Việt Nam Bar Federation. — VNA/VNS
