Số vụ bắt giữ người nhập cư trái phép tăng kỷ lục ở Mỹ - Ảnh 1.According to ABC News, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) carried out approximately 1,640 arrests of undocumented immigrants per day in July, marking the second consecutive month the agency set a record for the number of arrests. In June, ICE conducted about 43,000 arrests.

This surge in arrests follows the Trump administration's allocation of billions of dollars in additional funding and the hiring of thousands of new personnel for ICE.

Federal sources indicated that the increased staffing, new financial resources, and the Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) resolution of a prior budget shortfall contributed to the rise in enforcement activity. DHS maintains that ICE continues to focus on undocumented immigrants with criminal records or pending criminal charges, including gang members.

Juan Agudelo, the ICE field office director in Harlingen, Texas, stated that the agency would continue to prioritize public safety and the arrest of individuals deemed a threat to the community.According to recently released figures, the number of people detained within the ICE system has reached tens of thousands, while the White House pushes for a target of approximately 3,000 arrests per day.

Immigration enforcement operations have expanded to locations such as immigration courts and airports, while also intensifying in jurisdictions that maintain "sanctuary" policies.

Federal authorities maintain that local policies limiting cooperation with ICE will not hinder the enforcement of federal law.

However, the record pace of arrests has fueled debate over whether numerical targets might compromise the quality of law enforcement.

Some ICE employees and former officials warn that prioritizing arrest quotas could lead agents to focus on "easy" targets rather than directing resources toward individuals accused of serious crimes.

Past court records also reveal that the administration set a goal of approximately 3,000 arrests daily, further stoking the debate surrounding the use of numerical quotas in immigration enforcement.
